Review: Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation

Foundations are one of those things that I can't seem to get enough of. I'm a bit of a floozy when it comes to bases/foundations. I jump from one to the other and always like trying new things...even when I find one I genuinely like. However, Koh Gen Doh's Maifanshi Aqua Foundation SPF 15 PA ++ is something I can see having a permanent home in my foundation drawer.

It's that good.

According to Koh Gen Doh's website this foundation was "created to mimic the optical reflectance of a post facial treatment, the new technically advanced Aqua Foundation series finishes the skin to look brighter and healthier for an ideal natural finish. With radiance in mind, the Aqua Foundation is infused with a RGB powder that enhances the natural tone of the complexion for a brighter and poreless skin texture."

First off, I have combination oily skin. I can get pretty shiny all over my face, but occasionally get a bit drier around my mouth and flakey skin on the bridge/around my nose. It wasn't love at first application with this was all just a bit meh to be honest, but after having a good go with it for about a month and a half I realised my favourite way to apply this was with Sigma's F84 Angled Kabuki brush.

The packaging is beautifully simple in a glass bottle with a convenient pump. To me this foundation has light to medium coverage, but it's buildable. I use about 2 or 2 1/2 pumps for my entire face and the end result is still very skin-like and natural. It doesn't cover any really prominent spots, but that's nothing a concealer can't fix. In my very awkward photo above (apologies haha), you can see that it really does brighten the face. I did also notice that it does blur the appearance of pores. I did find that it clung to drier patches/flakey skin, so I'm not sure how it would work out for drier skin types. After this photo was taken I spent the day skateboarding, rollerblading, and playing basketball with my little cousins and I was shocked at how perfected my skin still looked.

The only downside to this foundation is that it only comes in 7 shades. I'm shade 123, if you're familiar with MAC I'm about an NC 25-30. Also, in the bottle this foundation seems to have a bit of shimmer, but once on the face it's undetectable...No glittery vampire-like skin here, thank goodness.

You can find this foundation at Sephora stores, or For a whopping $62 at 1.01fl.oz./ 30ml a bottle. Koh Gen Doh cosmetics goes on sale on, so make sure to keep an eye out!

So tell you have any thoughts on this foundation? Love it? Hate it? One thing's for sure, I'm definitely keen to try other products from this line.

  1. Your picture doesn't look awkward! Another great post. I personally have never found a foundation I like. They all either make me look like cake-face or flake-face. So, I wash my face and put on a sunscreen moisturizer and just pray that the spot gods look upon me with favour. Bravo Clem!

    1. You bootiful! Did the E.L.F. things not work out for you? Seriously, spot gods are pretty wrathful sometimes.
