What's in the makeup bag Vol. 1

I hope you're in the mood for a bit of a makeup babble because that's how I'm feeling today...I thought I would go over some of the makeup bits I have been using over the past few weeks.

Here are the goods...

First things first, I've gone back to mineral foundation. I don't know if it's because this is my first year/summer back in Southern California but my skin is going a bit wild. I am so oily yet dry at the same time it's all a bit ridiculous. I can't use liquid foundation because it will just slide right off but I can make the mineral foundation work if I prime the crap out of my face. I love Laura Mercier's Mineral's gorgeous, glowy and ticks all the right boxes. My only problem is that I can't find a proper colour match, which is why I decided to give Tarte's Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. I think a full review on this is in keep an eye out.

I'm still hung up on my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard. It's that good. Creamy full coverage and works amazingly when paired with the Beauty Blender Sponge.

Giorgio Armani's Eyes To Kill Mascara is phenomenal. I want it all when it comes to lashes...length and volume. None of this either or nonsense and this delivers. Although, it isn't the greatest at holding a curl but I have elephant lashes that are stubborn as hell, straight and grow, it could just be me.

IT Cosmetics YBBB Brow Power Skinny Pencil is what I've been using on my brows for the past couple of months. My first venture into brow pencils and I can't complain. My brows are really corse so waxy products just sit on top and look quite fake but this doesn't. This is supposed to be a universal brow product and I can see how thats possible. Depending on how much pressure you apply gives you different colour intensities.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how gorgeous Shu Uemura eyeshadows are. They are quickly becoming one of my favourite brands and for good reason. I made this palette and every single shadow is silky smooth, buttery and richly pigmented. I highly recommend you try them if you haven't already.

Like I said earlier, the bareMinerals quad in The Comfort Zone is a great base and I haven't put it down since I bought it. For liner I'm still loving Benefit's They're Real! Push Up Gel Liner...yeah it balls/gathers up a little bit if your not careful but it is so easy to use.

As for blush I literally had to force myself to put Jouer's Mineral Powder Blush in Peony down...if you purchase just one thing this month make it this one. After I forced myself to venture from peony of course I gravitate toward one of my most loved old favourites...typical. Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Exposed...a browny, rosy neutral that is right up my alley and lasts all day.

Now let's move onto something that didn't quite float my boat...

IT Cosemtics You're Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50+ in Medium. No matter how hard I tried I could not make this work. I tried using it with a primer, without a primer, over moisturiser and without a moisturiser. I tried setting it with a translucent powder as well as a mineral foundation (i.e. Laura Mercier Mineral Foundation)...I even tried setting it with setting sprays. Nothing...and I mean nothing worked.

To me this never properly sets on the skin and it feels tacky throughout the day. When you first apply it it looks nice but that doesn't last. Maybe an hour or two in it's slipping and sliding all over the place and I just end up looking like a hot mess. Also, the colour medium is very pink/peach based and just doesn't work with my skin tone...I end up having to blend it all the way down my neck and chest and lets be real, I can't be bothered.

I know this was quite the ramble but hey, what can you do? I'm really trying to get out of my usual makeup ruts and actually use the makeup I have. I think I'm going to start clearing out my makeup bag at the end of each month and bring in new things...what do you guys do to get out of a makeup routine?

  1. I would love to get more of your opinion on that tarte airbrush foundation. I love the Mac coverage powder. Is this similar? I wanted to try a new powder foundation and I love tarte in general. Obviously I wasn't going to buy it without asking you, my makeup guru first!
