Review: Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation

Another day another foundation...I mentioned earlier this week that I've been having trouble with my skin these past couple months and whenever that happens I always go back to mineral foundation. My best friend asked me how I was getting on with Tarte's foundation, so I thought after two weeks of testing it out I was ready to give my thoughts on it.

I've been eyeing Tarte's Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation for almost a year now but always put it off because I was so happy with my Laura Mercier mineral foundation. Well, that's on it's last leg out and not to mention that the colour match was always just a bit too dark for me, so I decided to go with Tarte this time around.

This foundation according to Tarte: "Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation delivers flawless, natural-looking coverage that lasts, while the skintuitive™ formula invigorates skintone and texture for a youthful complexion. Powered by Amazonian clay enriched with the earth’s natural, light-reflecting gemstones, this talc-free, moisture-rich powder buffs on smoothly for waterproof, 12-hour coverage that won’t settle into fine lines and wrinkles. Available in an array of shades to perfectly complement a wide range of skintones and undertones, this innovative foundation also employs a custom mesh delivery system for a fool-proof, mess-free application every time."

First, let's talk about the packaging....I have a love/hate relationship with it. I don't mind the stopper in the cap like most people do but the netting drives me nuts. I have to place my brush over the netting and tip it upside down in order to get product on the brush. I know this isn't that big of a deal but if you don't have a brush that completely covers the circle netting you're going to get powder everywhere. It's a whole hell of a lot cleaner than my other mineral foundations but it's just a bit annoying.

I did end up buying the brush that goes along with the foundation, even though I'm not particularly a believer in designated brushes for products, but after trying multiple brushes with it I went back for it and it does actually make a difference in application. It's not necessary by any means it just makes things easier.

I went with the colour light-medium neutral for light to medium skin with yellow and pink undertones. I was a bit hesitant with the yellow and pinbut surprisingly works really well for an NC25(ish?) skin tone. It does oxidise slightly throughout the day but not to the point of being really noticeable. So if you're on the fence between a lighter or darker colour...go with the lighter option.

As for the foundation itself...I love it. I think it sits beautifully on the skin, looks really natural and gives such a nice glow. I wouldn't say it has full coverage exactly but the coverage that it gives is enough for what I'm looking for. If you have really problem skin then a concealer will definitely be needed. Also, this is not for dry skin. If I don't really moisturise my slightly drier areas then it clings to every little flake but it control shine brilliantly. I applied this at 10am and didn't have to blot my face until around 3.30ish 4pm, which is really good for me, and even then I wasn't really shine just a bit dewy looking.

My only gripe with this is that it sits oddly on the nose initially and then looks a little funny again toward the end of the day. It's hard to explain because I've never really experienced this before but it's one of those things that only you would see if you were looking in the mirror inspecting your face. The overall wear time is good. I can wear it throughout the day but would definitely need to touch up for a night out.

Here's a hammy photo for you to see the foundation in action. As always the photos are taken in natural lighting with no touch ups or filters. What do you think? I really like it and would definitely recommend it for anyone with normal to oily skin. Every time I come back to mineral foundation I always wonder why I ever strayed? I promise to never leave you this long again...well, until something else comes along haha #foundationaddict.

See you soon.
