Clourpop Overview

Colourpop quite literally took over the beauty community a few months back and that was one of the main reasons why I wasn't planning on buying anything from the line. When something is overly hyped or talked about it kind of has the opposite affect and I become tired of it or just tune it out. However, when the Where The Light Is collection came out it was right up my alley...bronze-y neutrals, yes please I'm all about it.

Colourpop is an extremely affordable cosmetics line with everything ranging from $5-$8 and free shipping on orders over $30.

Where The Light Is
(L-R) Glow, Cornelius, Kathleen Lights, Blaze

First off, the textures of these eyeshadows are strange...they are a cream like powder and feel slightly cooling. The shadows swatch beautifully, but I found that on me they just didn't hold up well (I have pretty oily eyelids). The mattes shades (Glow & Cornelius) were difficult to pick up on a brush, blend, and just overall hard to work with. Blaze was the shade I was most excited for, but it's packed with chunks of glitter and by the end of the day all that was left on my lids was the glitter bits. Kathleen Lights was the nicest consistency out of the bunch and worked the best. While the colours are beautiful they are just too tedious for me to work with...if you haven't noticed I'm more of a no fuss type of girl.

Onto the Lippie Stix (I don't know why, but that name drives me crazy). Warning: these lip swatches get quite messy because these lipsticks stain like no other...also, please excuse the face, the day was hot and my makeup was on for 6+ hours before I took these photos.

Although I haven't tried everything from Colourpop, I think the Lippie Stix are the best part of the line because you can try the wildest of colours with minimal "risk" since these are only $5. I found with both the matte and satin shades your lips need to be in top condition because they will highlight every line, flake, or any other thing going on. The mattes wore incredibly well, but they stain your lips like no other. I wore I <3 This yesterday and my lips are STILL a berry pink, which is kind of annoying. The mattes aren't the creamiest of formulas, so I like wearing a chapstick underneath. Although the satins glide on easier, they create lines/move around every time you press your lips together, so I would definitely recommend getting the corresponding lipliner with them. One thing I absolutely love is the shape of the packaging/lipstick because it makes applying the colour extremely easy.

My favourite colour out of the bunch is I <3 This. I love this one so much that I think I might order the lip liner. Then it would be Yasmin. All the other colours I could probably live without, but they were fun to try.

Overall, I think Colourpop is a great concept but it's not enough to make me want to go and repurchase, I'm pretty content with what I have now. I think it's pretty genius that you can try out so many different colours, finishes, and textures without breaking the bank. Also, since the eyeshadows are a creamy powder they will dry up over a period of time, which is why they will be finding a new home because I'm already not grabbing for them enough and I don't want them to go to waste.

What do you guys think? Have you tried anything from Colourpop?

  1. Love their lippie stix and their blushes. The formula is weird at first cause you haven't tried anything like it but after using them for so long I got used to it and kinda like it. The glittery eyeshadows are best applied with fingers, you get a lot of pigment that way plus no fallout. I don't own In the lights but I have other eyeshadows which are really nice. I placed an order the other day and got couple of stuff from their summer collection and I can't wait to get them :)

    1. The first thing I said when I touched the eyeshadows was "Oh weird!" out loud haha! The eyeshadow shades are absolutely stunning, but I think my eyelids are too oily for this type of formula. I just went on their website and they have so many lovely bright new lip shades...bright lips are always my weakness! Thank you so much for checking out my blog :) xx

  2. The lip shades are really beautiful on you (perfect makeup btw), there's not a single colour you don't pull off! I recently made an order from Colourpop though I didn't buy any lip prods (trying to be good and stick with my lip product ban). I would be interested to see how the eyeshadows hold up over time given their kinda odd texture and the fact they warn against them drying out ... hopefully they last a good 1-2 years at least but I guess we shall see!

    1. Thank you so much! It's so weird to see myself in a lot of the brighter pink shades because I typically gravitate toward red or orange-red. I remember reading your post about your lip product band...hat off to you for sticking with it! I should probably do the same haha. I read somewhere that they should last around 3 years with the lids closed tightly. I can't wait to hear what you think of them and also what you ended up picking out.

      xx
